The UNICEF is hiring a Finance Assistant.

In Mozambique, UNICEF is strengthening its finance operations to ensure timely and efficient support to programme delivery for children. The Finance team requires additional support to improve the processing and monitoring of VAT refund claims, Direct Cash Transfers (DCTs), invoices, advances, and related financial documentation. This assignment will contribute to improved VAT compliance and recovery, reduced processing backlogs, and stronger financial records management.
The Finance Assistant will be based in Maputo, Mozambique, working under the direct supervision of the Finance Officer/Specialist and in coordination with the Finance and Administrative Unit. The role will provide finance and administrative support with a strong focus on VAT refund processing, invoice and DCT registration, advances, reconciliations, and maintaining complete and audit-ready financial documentation.
Key Responsibilities
1. VAT Refund Processing & Compliance
- Prepare and submit VAT refund claims within the required three-month deadline.
- Download, organize, and process invoices and supporting documentation for VAT claims.
- Follow up with Revenue Authorities on outstanding VAT refund claims and provide regular status updates.
- Coordinate with programme sections and suppliers to resolve missing documentation and VAT compliance issues.
2. Financial Processing & Reconciliation
- Support registration of Direct Cash Transfers (DCTs) and invoices in the relevant application.
- Contribute to the effective implementation and utilization of automated finance applications.
- Manage UNV advance processing, including timely documentation, reconciliation, and clearance.
- Support accurate and timely processing of financial transactions.
3. Administrative & Records Management Support
- Provide general administrative support to the Finance and Administrative Unit.
- Maintain accurate financial records through effective filing and archiving.
- Ensure financial documentation is complete, properly organized, and audit-ready.
- Support accurate document preparation, data entry, and records management.
Profile Required
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience at the national and/or international level in finance, accounting, administration, invoice processing, VAT documentation, records management, or related support functions.
- Experience with invoice review and VAT claim management is an asset, as is experience working with the UN or another international development organization. Familiarity with ERP/finance systems, database tools, and AI is an advantage.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Administration, or Commerce.
Languages
- Fluent English.
- Fluent Portuguese.
